I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up,
And have not let my foes rejoice over me.
O Lord my God, I cried out to You,
And You healed me.
O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave;
You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His,
And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for life;
Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning.
Psalm 30:1-5
In this Psalm, David begins by praising God for delivering him from his enemies and he goes on to praise Him for healing. In verse three, he continues his praises for “bringing his soul up from the grave” and keeping him alive.
I want you to notice a few things.
First, King David had enemies and these enemies sought to take his life. Please recognize that as followers of Jesus, we will have enemies; specifically THE enemy who will take pleasure in our destruction. We can rejoice in the fact that our God will deliver us from our enemies, from THE enemy.
Secondly, the king suffered sickness. Life is not always easy. There will be times of sickness and disease, however, we serve the HEALER.
Next, God spared his life on many occasions. We know some of these times were from king Saul whom David served faithfully. Don’t grow weary in serving faithfully especially when nobody sees what you do or worse accuses you of doing it for the wrong reasons. Please remember, it is God we serve and not man.
Finally, David praises God through all these hardships and then encourages others to do the same,
Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His,
And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
We can give God praise no matter what trial or hardship we are facing because Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning.
