Do you find yourself thinking the world couldn’t get any worse?
In the midst of political unrest, soaring prices on gas and food, riots and destruction that go unchecked and are even legitimized, the mass killing of unborn children, taking the Bible and any teaching of morals and values out of our schools and replacing it with drag queens and instruction on how to determine what sex you are and that can, by the way, change, depending on how you feel. I look around and I think it couldn’t possibly get any worse. However, I know the truth of God’s Word and not only can it get worse, it will. Check out the book of Revelation.
Consider the fact that it has been even worse in the past. Genesis 6:5, 12 tells us at one point people were so wicked that the whole world was corrupted and only one man found grace in the eyes of God.
Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually…So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
It’s hard to imagine what it was like then. People were so wicked that God literally wiped out the entire planet and started over with one family.
We’ve been blessed here in the United States with relative peace and freedoms that we take for granted. The majority of the world does not experience the life that we do. Most of the world lives in extreme poverty under governments that continue to oppress, enslave, and murder their own people. Although it is becoming increasingly unpopular to be a follower of Jesus in the US, we still, for the time being, are allowed to worship freely. That is not the case in a large portion of the world. In China, the Middle East, North Korea, Russia, and many countries in South America and Africa people are not free to worship the One True God. Their faith comes with very real consequences. They face loss of jobs, their children are not allowed to go to school, they deal with the reality of physical attack on themselves and their families, imprisonment, torture, and even death.
We are not there….yet
Recently, we saw the Supreme court overturn Roe v. Wade and put the decision of abortion back in the hands of each state. Honestly, I was shocked. I never thought that would happen. Don’t get me wrong, I prayed for it and hoped for it but I guess I just didn’t have the faith that it would happen. Have you ever been there? Have you ever prayed for something for a long time that you somehow thought was an impossibility and have God shock you with an answer? I was born in 1973 so I have never known a world without Roe v. Wade.
In this time of turmoil in our country I think about our children and grandchildren and what will be normal for them. I grieve to think that they will not know the freedoms that we experienced in our childhood. This new world is indoctrinating them to believe whatever the culture says is right today, which changes with the blowing of the wind. Scripture tells us that our children and grandchildren are a heritage of the Lord, a gift. Psalm 127:3-5 Our culture today is trying to tell them that they are burdens that are disposable. What does that speak to our children? That their parents’ happiness and ability to live the way they want is much more important than their very lives.
Could it possibly get worse?
Yes, but sometimes He answers a prayer and it gets just a little better for a while.
We must trust God through all this and know that He created us, our children, and grandchildren, for “such a time as this” and He has a purpose and plan for each of us if we’ll only trust Him.
