Have you ever found yourself at a crossroads in your life or in a change of seasons and have no idea where to go from here? Have you ever earnestly sought God, asking the questions, what’s next or what do I do now?
I believe life is a series of ‘crisis of belief’ moments. What I mean is that every day we make a decision, whether consciously or unconsciously, to walk with with God, doing things His way or our way. However there are moments when life changes or takes an unexpected turn and we are faced with a crisis of belief. This never just happens once in a person’s lifetime, it is something that is recurring through all the stages of life. Examples include but are certainly not limited to the death of a loved one, loss of a job, financial difficulties, wayward children, providing care for a disabled child or elderly parent, the list is endless. These moments often find us lost, abandoned, or confused searching for direction, seeking the next step, or asking why. This never ends. God has us on a constant journey of trust as we walk with Him and grow in our faith. Each crossroads is a opportunity to grow in our faith and deepen our relationship with our Creator.
Read this quote carefully.
“Because God wants to take you in ever-increasing measures to know Him. And the only way you can know Him is by experiencing Him. So He’s going to ask you to go with Him in dimensions that require more faith and more activity than you have ever used before. Otherwise you will never grow in your faith in Him. The only way you can grow in your faith in Him is to accept the next assignment which is always greater than the previous one. Don’t ever feel that you will get to the place where you’ll never be scared half to death.” ~ Henry Blackaby
Think about what he is saying here. There is so much deep truth to this statement. In our flesh, as human beings, we desire comfort and ease. However, if that was what God allowed, we would NEVER grow; we would never be challenged to move beyond our comfort zone to be molded into what God designed us for, a close relationship with Him.
There are so many examples in the Scriptures of ‘crisis of belief’ moments. Times when someone was challenged to step away from everything they knew and were comfortable with having to fully trust God. The story of Ruth is one such example. Ruth was a Moabite who had grown up in a pagan culture but married the son of Naomi of Bethlehem. When Naomi’s husband and both her sons died, she packed up and headed for home. One daughter-in-law, Orpah, decided to return to her family and stay in Moab but Ruth chose to stay with Naomi, traveling to a new home far from her family. Why would she do that? I believe it was because she had come to know the Creator God and had no choice but to step out in faith and trust Him.
But Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God. (Ruth 1:16 NKJV)
I don’t believe for one second that this was an easy decision for Ruth. I believe she was probably terrified. I also believe because of her faith in the One true God, she could only do what she did, leaving everything and everyone she knew and trust her God. God ultimately blessed her faithfulness making her the great grandmother of king David.
I want to encourage you today. If you find yourself at a crossroads, seeking God’s next step for your life, know that stepping out in faith and trusting Him with the ‘scary’, will be the best thing you have ever done and God will bless your faithfulness.
